INTRODUCTION TO DATABASES

We divided the databases (family trees and indexes) into several sections because we do not yet have documentation proving how Capt. John, Nathaniel, Zebedee and Mercy descend from Edmund Chandler, the immigrant. 

The first database (Edmund's Main Lineage) consists of his descendants from documented lines. The remaining databases -- Capt. John (AKA John, 2nd, John, Jr.), Nathaniel, Zebedee and Mercy -- are separate because the identity of their parents has been source of controversy for decades and is an area that we are actively researching. See "Was Edmund Chandler married to Elizabeth Alden" and "Those Confusing John Chandlers" for more details. We will update our website as more information is found.

Capt. John was born in 1696 and Nathaniel, Zebedee, and Mercy were born in the early 1700s. They were all of Duxbury, Massachusetts and environs. Capt. John had many descendants through his son, Jonathan, who moved to Maine. Nathaniel is believed only to have had daughters. Zebedee had sons and daughters. Mercy married Josiah Bartlett and moved to Connecticut. She had many children.
